Welcome

ThIS Weimar - Welcome

“To educate, empower and inspire!”

Message from the Director

Welcome to Thuringia International School Weimar, now in our second decade of providing an international learning experience for children of expatriates living in Germany as well as host country nationals. With high aspirations, an eye to the future, a welcoming community, and dedicated and caring teachers I feel most fortunate to be part of ThIS.

Please visit our school. What you will find is an amazing learning environment created by great teachers. They are recruited from all over the world and form a skilled, hard working team who keep the learning and well-being of their students as the primary focus. The quality of instruction they deliver is all about making learning meaningful, to nurture individual talents, the intellectual, social and personal development of our students.

We are an IBO World School, and fully support the following programs: Primary Years Program PYP - Early Primary through grade 5, the Cambridge Secondary 1 curriculum - grades 6-8 (2011), the International General Certificate of Secondary Education Curriculum IGCSE - grades 9-10, and the IB Diploma DP program.

The purpose built facilities are in the heart of Weimar, Germany amidst a tree lined boulevard, the Belvederer Allee. In early January 2011 the school moved into a new building, Phase I of a three Phase Capital Facilities’ Project. A new gym, cafeteria, and small auditorium are currently under construction. Come spring this year the remodel of the old school will commence. Once completed, it will be connected with the new facility to unity the school community under one roof and providing space for additional students and programs.

We value the opportunity to participate in growth of the state of Thuringia and to work in a country with a rich history alongside a dynamic present and future. ThIS is the only private international school in the state of Thuringia and a member in good standing of the Council of International Schools CIS, and the Association of German International Schools AGIS.

In the short time I have been at ThIS I have encountered both successes and challenges typical of a school in its path of continuous school improvement. I have found a caring community of students, dedicated staff, and wonderfully supportive parents who are resilient and always willing to progress. It is my pleasure to return to work each day to greet children running happily into school ready for another exciting day in the classroom. I encourage you to visit our school and experience “Learning with Excitement.”

Sincerely,

Barbara Beaufait
